Actor commands huge salary for pretty much just showing up on set

Here is a lesson in how to tell if an actor or actress really is A-list: before looking at his or her salary per movie, look at the kind of money he or she can command for a single endorsement deal. Once you’ve done this, you will see that Gary Oldman is definitely A-list, if not actually a step above that.

The other day, HTC unveiled their latest ad, for HTC One M8, starring none other than Mr. Oldman himself. The commercial, embedded in full below, is very sleek and expensive-looking but, if you think Oldman’s involvement also brings it a touch of drama, you’re wrong.

All he says in his first seconds of screentime is “blah blah blah,” and then “blah blah blah” some more. “It doesn't matter what I say, because the new HTC is designed for people who form their own opinions. So go on then, ask the Internet,” he eventually adds, staring straight into the camera.

The Daily Mail reports that, under this HTC deal, Oldman was paid an impressive $12 million (€8.7 million), which is probably the highest amount ever offered to someone to say “blah blah blah.”

Granted, it’s Oldman who’s saying it and it all fits with the concept of the video (that the phone is so awesome it needs no introduction), but don’t you wish right now you too were an actor able to make this kind of money in a couple of days’ work? I know I do.

Here’s what $12 million (€8.7 million) can buy you, hipster glasses not included:
