Rumors on the upcoming release of HTC’s first phablet, the One max, continue to emerge online. HTC is expected to unveil the smartphone in mid-October, but we don’t have an official confirmation yet.

Taiwanese blog site ePrice reported last week that sources close to the matter claimed HTC One max would go official on October 17, though the handset maker has yet to announce a press event for that timeframe.

However, in light of the new findings, it looks like the One max might be announced in the next few weeks. Focus Taiwan reports that the smartphone has already been approved by National Communications Commission (NCC), Taiwan’s regulatory commission, FCC’s equivalent.

Although HTC Taiwan declined any comments on the approval of its One max handset, if the information is accurate, we can expect the device to go on sale in the coming weeks.

A part of the phablet’s specs sheet has already been leaked but none of it is confirmed yet, so take it with a grain of salt until HTC goes official with the One max.

HTC One max should be delivered with either Android 4.2 or 4.3 onboard and will boast a 5.9-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

On the inside, the phablet is likely to come equipped with a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. It’s unclear whether HTC One max will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU inside or an older model.

On a more positive note, the smartphone has been confirmed to offer 4G support. Several live pictures of the One max popped up online last month and some of them have the 4G logo embedded onto the phone.

Another strong point of HTC One max is the high-capacity 3,300 mAh Li-Ion battery, which should provide lots of hours of medium use. Stay tuned for more updates on the subject.
