Theoretically, HTC One M8 users could also install Windows Phone 8.1 on their phones

Here is something strange about the upcoming Windows Phone handset soon to be unveiled by HTC. It appears that the so-called HTC One W8 will come with the same open bootloader as the One M8, its Android counterpart.

This means that those who purchase the HTC One W8 could theoretically flash Android OS on their smartphones. Moreover, HTC One M8 owners would also be able to install Windows Phone platform on their devices if they wish it so.

The information has been recently confirmed by Upleaks who seems to have a clear record of leaks until now. According the leaker, “HTC W8 bootloader support HTC M8 UL and M8 WL.”

This raises the question on whether or not developers will be able to port Windows Phone 8.1 to HTC One M8 and Android 4.4 KitKat on the yet-to-be-released HTC One W8.

If the information proves to be accurate and HTC decides to go with the One W8 running an open bootloader similar to that of the One M8, either Windows Phone or Android might lose some fans.

Given the fact that both smartphones reportedly have the same hardware configuration, it will be interesting to see how many One M8 units HTC will continue to sell after the release of the One W8.

It’s a common fact that Windows Phones are much cheaper than Android smartphones. So it won’t come as a surprise if Google’s fans went and purchased the HTC One W8 and flash the latest version of Android on it in order to avoid getting more expensive One M8 that comes with KitKat out of the box.

Obviously, there might be a fair share of people who already own the HTC One M8 and want to try out Windows Phone operating system and see if it’s superior to Android in the aspects they’re interested in.

However, we doubt there will be more HTC One M8 owners to install Windows Phone 8.1 on their smartphones then Android fans buying One W8 devices to install their favorite OS on them.

Even if the information provided by Upleaks proves to be accurate, we doubt HTC would make it so easy to install Android on HTC One W8 and/or Windows Phone 8.1 on HTC One M8. We will keep an eye out on any additional details on this wild idea, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
