HTC reassures users that it will deliver the same performance

HTC One S, one of the latest Android-based devices to come out from the Taiwanese mobile phone maker, is available in some markets around the world with a Snapdragon S3 application processor inside.

The handset was launched with a newer Snapdragon S4 CPU from Qualcomm in the first place, but HTC apparently decided to replace the chip with the older-generation CPU from the same company.

Thus, instead of benefiting for capabilities of a 1.5 GHz dual-core S4 processor, some HTC One S users will have to do with the 1.7 GHz dual-core instead.

According to a recent article on The Verge, HTC has already confirmed the processor swap, saying that it affects units in various Asia-Pacific regions as well as in a series of European countries.

The main reason for this is the fact that Qualcomm is having a hard time keeping up with the incredible demand that its S4 application processor is registering around the world.

The chip offers great LTE connectivity capabilities, and many handset vendors chose it to power their 4G-enabled devices.

However, HTC notes that devices featuring the S3 chip inside will be labeled as such, so that users would be aware of the change.

Moreover, the company notes that the user experience should not be affected by the move. The fact that the S3 CPU is clocked higher should help the device offer the same performance levels as when running an S4 processor.

Previously, HTC did say that it was focused on providing users with the highest quality possible, and that any change it made to devices would not affect the overall performance.

“As with many high-demand HTC devices, we always work with our supply chain partners to source models which will allow us to meet customer demand as quickly as possible. In cases where more than one part is used, we ensure the same high bar of quality in the part to provide an equal user experience,” the company reportedly said.
