Although this might not come as news for some HTC fans at least it's a confirmation from another source that some of the newer smartphones launched by the Taiwanese handset maker will be getting the highly anticipated Android 4.4 KitKat update within the next two months.

According to HTC leaker LlabTooFeR, HTC plans to offer an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade to the newest smartphones by the end of February. The list of devices to receive the update include: HTC One, HTC One Dual-SIM, HTC One max and HTC One mini.

“All new devices such as One,One DualSIM, One max, One mini will get 4.4.2 update in time frame January-February...”

The bad news is HTC One X won't be getting any major upgrades in the future. Some of the reasons are the fact that 18 months have already passed since the launch of the smartphone and HTC does not seem to offer upgrade to such old devices.

Another reasons is the fact that coding for devices based on Nvidia Tegra chispets is much harder than for those powered by Qualcomm chipsets.

That being said, HTC fans who still own the One X may want to switch to a newer device if they wish to experience the latest features offered by Google's Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Perhaps the upcoming HTC One 2 (or the New HTC One) would be a good choice.

Back on Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the newest HTC smartphones, it appears that the upgrade will not include the HTC Sense 6 UI. Word is Sense 6 UI may land on some HTC devices that are now available on the market sometime in late Autumn.

It is also worth mentioning that this January-February timeframe is only available for HTC Europe updates. However, other regions are expected to receive the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for these particular devices on a few weeks later.
