The big phablet is getting an important software update

HTC has arrived fairy late to the Android 5.0 Lollipop party. While other device makers such as Motorola, LG and Samsung have been quite quick in picking up the update, HTC has taken its sweet time delivering the new OS version to its handsets.

Nevertheless, the new build has started arriving on some of the company’s flagship models, including the One M8 or One M7. And as of this week, HTC has also started updating the One Max model, a device that was released back in October 2013. The smartphone is getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop treatment and not Android 5.1, which is the latest version.

The new build is pushed over-the-air (OTA) and weighs about 760MB. For the time being, the new update is being made available for owners of the One Max located in select Asian and European countries, including Taiwan, France, Italy, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Updates such as this one are being rolled out in stages, so if you don’t reside in any of these countries, don’t fret out. However, you should keep in mind that you might have to wait a few days if not weeks for the new build to hit your handset.

HTC One Max finally receiving its due

For those of you who don’t remember, a previously leaked HTC update roadmap revealed that the One Max was supposed to be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update starting in March. It’s been three months since the deadline passed, but we guess later is better than never.

The HTC One Max is one of the largest smartphones the company has ever produced. The device arrives with a 5.9-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, 373ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The massive phone draws power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, complemented by 2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. The handset is also equipped with a microSD card which allows users to expand memory capacity to up to 64GB.

The HTC One Max is clad in an aluminum body and is the third addition to the family, alongside the HTC One and One Mini.

When it originally launched, HTC bundled the phone with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, but now the phone is finally getting a taste of Google’s latest and greatest. Although Android M is going to be out soon.
