HTC One M9 is poised to receive new software soon

The HTC One M9 has been stuck at Android 5.0 Lollipop since it became official at MWC 2015 back in February.

There are also some features the flagship is missing. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge offer a Guest Mode functionality that is not included on the One M9. Luckily, it seems like things are going to change soon, as HTC is rumored to be prepping the “next major software update.”

The news comes to us from HTC ROM developer LlabTooFeR, who posted on Twitter screenshots highlighting two important features that the new update is going to bring to the table. We’re not specifically told, but it’s very likely that the new build will turn out to be Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The update adds two novelties

Anyway, let’s take a moment and see what those new features are going to be. First of all, HTC will be adding Guest Mode to the One M9, finally putting it on par with Samsung’s new flagships. Furthermore, it will also bring the ability to adjust the One M9’s screen color temperature (an option already available through third-party apps).

There is no timeline for when the update will start rolling out to owners of the One M9, but we have to guess that the company will begin delivering the new soft during the upcoming months. It’s also safe to say that the One M9 won’t be the only handset to get the new update.

Hopefully, the new software will manage to resuscitate fading enthusiasm for the One M9. Not so long ago, we told you that, facing low demand for its latest flagship, HTC might have to cut its component orders for the phone by 30%.

The HTC One M9 doesn't impress customers much

The One M9’s disappointing sales have been attributed to the handset's failure to differentiate itself from other models on the market but also from its predecessor, the One M8.

HTC has also risked a lot, choosing the same date as Samsung to launch its newest top-tier phone. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge ended up stealing all the spotlight at MWC 2015, while the poor One M9 went on to be quickly forgotten.
