Since the HTC One M9 got released in March 2015, the phone received a software update which added a new RAW shooting mode.

Well, this week, One M9 users residing in Europe, Middle East and Africa will be receiving a new OTA update which will bump the software version up to 1.40.401.5.

The update was already made available in Taiwan a few weeks ago and will also be delivered to US users later this month. It’s not a major update, but even so, there’s a bunch of important enhancements that will make using your One M9 a lot better (as seen at Anand Tech).

Photo-centric improvements

First off, the camera department gets extra functionalities. The new software adds greater auto-exposure balance to improve overexposure, so the images look less washed out. The update also reduces noise and blur in low light, so now the images will look clearer and their details more visible.

Users will also see a few changes related to the reduction of yellow/green hue to photos taken in extreme lighting conditions. So after performing the update, photos snapped with the One M9 will reveal colors that appear truer to their actual hue.

Battery life tweaks added

Apart from the camera improvements, battery life has also been given a boost. Thanks to the new update, you should be seeing reduced power consumption when using demanding applications like YouTube and Facebook.

Video consumption and social media fans will certainly be glad to be able to spend more time on these apps without worrying they have forgotten to bring their charger along.

The One M9 overheats less while charging

Last but not least, HTC is throwing in some smart charging thermal improvements, which should help maintain the phone cooler while it’s charging. The One M9 is one of the flagships that run on the highly controversial Snapdragon 810 platform, which has repeatedly been accused of overheating, so the update attempts to appease such issues, in case they arise.

The update rolling out at the moment is Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, and HTC has remained mum on whether it plans to also deliver Android 5.1 for its devices at some point or not.

On the other hand, the manufacturer was among the first to announce the Android M update for the One M9 and M9+ smartphones. Could these phones end up skipping Android 5.1 altogether?
