The smartphone shows few improvements over One M8

HTC launched its flagship smartphone, the One M9 back in March and made it available on the market the same month. Even though the device doesn't sell that well, HTC continues to launch variations of the One M9.

Anyway, one of the reasons the HTC One M9 isn't so popular among Android fans anymore is because it brings few improvements over its predecessor. And camera is definitely not among them.

According to reputed website DxOMark, which puts mobile cameras through complex tests in order to establish how a good one is compared to another, the One M9 has a very bad camera. Well, a very bad one for a flagship smartphone at least.

“With an overall DxOMark Mobile score of 69, the One M9 shows few improvements over its predecessor, the One M8. Its score is good enough to put the HTC One M9 into 21st place alongside the Amazon Fire Phone, but below top performers such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, which is currently on top with an higher DxOMark Mobile score of 86.”

Even though HTC One M9 comes with an updated camera module over the previous model, lab tests don't show any signs of improvement.

Lots of cons, only a few pros

Among the positive things that DxOMark mentions in the tests there's the good autofocus, very good details shown, as well as nice and pleasing colors in bright light.

However, pictures captured with HTC One M9's camera show that colors are oversaturated in low light and white balance is often inaccurate in both bright and low light.

Other cons mentioned include strong ringing and slight fringing, loss of sharpness around image corners and strong quantization on uniform tones and in color gradations.

That being said, HTC might fix some of these issue and improve One M9's camera through software updates, but for the time being it remains one of the wort included in a flagship smartphone.
