Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has been rumored lately to plan the release of a smaller version of its HTC One M8 flagship model, and photos allegedly depicting the device have already leaked online.

Available courtesy of Weibo, said photos show that the new device, supposedly called HTC One M8 mini, will come to the market with looks similar to those of its larger brother, though with a series of design changes included.

The first thing that can be observed when looking at said images is the fact that the yet unannounced device will land on shelves without the Duo Camera setup on the back.

The phone does feature a back camera with dual-LED Flash, but the secondary camera on the back, which HTC included to offer depth of field, is not present on this device. Photos with plastic cases for the device, available courtesy of nowhereelse.fr, confirm this.

Should previous reports on this device pan out, we might see HTC One M8 mini being launched with a 13-megapixel camera on the back, without the UltraPixel technology that the company included in its latest flagship phone.

The mobile phone was previously said to arrive on shelves at Verizon Wireless in the United States, but it should be released in other markets out there as well. No official info on when that might happen has been provided as of now.

However, some details on the hardware specifications that HTC One M8 mini might feature when released were spotted online before, suggesting that it would feature a 4.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution.

Moreover, the handset is expected to be announced with a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor inside, as well as with 1GB of RAM next to it.

The mobile phone should also include 16GB of internal memory, but it remains to be seen whether it will also come to shelves with a microSD memory card slot, as HTC One M8 did.

The usual set of connectivity capabilities and sensors will also be included on this device, such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS receiver. No word on the phone’s front camera has been provided, and it remains to be seen whether HTC will keep the 5MP sensor from the larger counterpart.

HTC One M8 mini should run under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system when launched, with HTC’s own Sense 6.0 UI loaded on top.

It also remains to be seen what market name the new device might feature. According to a recent tweet from @evleaks, it could be announced as HTC One mini 2.

No confirmation on the hardware specifications of this smartphone has been provided as of now, but it might not be too long before HTC decides to formally introduce it, so stay tuned to learn more on it.
