Although it is highly focused on the launch of Android-based devices, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation hasn’t forgotten about Windows Phone either, and a new handset running under Microsoft’s operating system might arrive soon, it seems.

According to a recent post on WPDang, the phone maker might actually plan on releasing a Windows Phone 8.1 version of the newly unveiled HTC One M8 smartphone, one that would include many of the exclusive features present inside this phone.

However, some changes when compared to the HTC One M8 are still expected to be made to the Windows Phone model, though the metal body and the dual cameras on the back might remain there.

The source of this rumor did not offer specific info on when the Windows Phone 8.1 One M8 might be launched, but it did say that the device was real.

Of course, with no official confirmation on the matter, we’ll take the info with a grain of salt for the time being. However, it would not come as a surprise if HTC indeed released the phone in the not too distant future.

After all, HTC used to be the largest provider of Windows Mobile-based devices, and the company has already released a great deal of Windows Phone handsets as well.

At the same time, the tight competition in the Android segment could determine it to put more effort into its Windows Phone plans, as it might have a lot to gain there as well, despite Nokia’s dominance on the area.
