The number is based on downloads of exclusive apps in the Google Play Store

HTC One M8, the latest Android-based flagship handset from Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation, has been on the market for roughly one month and a half, though it appears that sales might have been really slow.

According to a recent article on Android Central, chances are that HTC has sold only about half a million HTC One M8 devices since bringing it to the market on March 25.

As mentioned above, no official info on the exact sales of the device has been provided as of now, but the number above is based on data coming from the Google Play Store.

When announcing the HTC One M8, the mobile phone maker also released on the portal a series of applications specifically tailored for it, such as HTC Gallery, an app for the Dot View Case, an app for Zoe, and the like.

These mobile applications were made available exclusively on the new flagship smartphone, and they have just passed the half a million downloads mark.

Basically, the news site notes that, based on said downloads, we can assume that sales of HTC One M8 stand just above the 500,000 mark as well.

Should this pan out, it would translate into sales of around 15,000 HTC One M8 units per day, or around 110,000 units per week.

In late April, HTC's Jason Mackenzie, said, speaking to TechnoBuffalo, that the company was pleased with the sales of the new flagship handset, and that they were also above those of HTC One (M7) last year.

Clearly, you should take the numbers above with a grain of salt, since there’s no official confirmation on the actual sales of the smartphone, though chances are that they are not far off from the actual sales figures.

Last year’s HTC One (M7) had seen a series of stock issues immediately after launch, due to shortages in the component supply channel, and it’s clear that this year’s flagship sold better in the first month of availability, since it was not been plagued by similar problems.

Even so, the handset appears to have performed quite weak when compared to sales of handsets such as Samsung Galaxy S5 or the Apple iPhone, but things are still looking good for the troubled handset vendor.

Most probably, the Taiwanese mobile phone maker will provide some specific info on the sales of HTC One M8 in the not-too-distant future, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
