HTC One M8 running Android is definitely one of the most powerful smartphones on the planet, so the fact that the Taiwanese handset maker decided to make a Windows Phone version available should please Microsoft fans as well.

Recently introduced at Verizon, HTC One M8 for Windows quickly got in the hands of reviewers who were anxious to see how well the smartphone performed in comparison with the King aka Nokia Lumia 1520.

Well, it looks like HTC One M8 for Windows is even faster than the Lumia 1520, even if there are only small differences when it comes to hardware.

The folks over at WPCentral put them against each other in a benchmark app, which provided the scores needed to rank them in the Windows Phone performance hierarch.

Even though the results show that the HTC One M8 for Windows is the clear winner, there are only small differences between benchmarks, which means that, if you already own the Lumia 1520, it’s not really worth the upgrade unless you really love HTC’s design and can afford to pay for it.

Speaking of which, Verizon is now selling the HTC One M8 for Windows for only $100 (€75) on 2-year agreements or $600 (€450) outright. For the time being, the smartphone is exclusively available through Verizon, but AT&T has already confirmed that it will add the One M8 for Windows to its portfolio.

Moreover, some UK-based retailers have also announced that they will offer the smartphone later this year, which means that HTC plans to launch the One M8 for Windows internationally at some point.

Back on the HTC One M8 for Windows benchmark results, it’s worth mentioning that one of the reasons it gets better performance is the fact that it comes with a more powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor inside, which is complemented by an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

On the other hand, Nokia Lumia 1520 is armed with a slightly older 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU that goes along with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

Keep in mind that Lumia 1520 was benchmarked with Windows Phone 8.1 Update build 14157 and Lumia Cyan firmware, while the HTC One M8 was benchmarked running Windows Phone 8.1 build 14141.

Based on HTC One M8 for Windows Basemark OS II results, the device has just become the world’s most powerful smartphone powered by Windows Phone operating system. Now, what do you think about that? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
