Could the One E9 actually be the rumored One M9 Plus?

A few days ago at MWC 2015 in Barcelona, we saw HTC unveil its latest flagship, the One M9. However, prior to the event, we were expecting the Taiwanese device maker to also roll out the One M9 Plus, to cater to the needs of those who wanted a 2K display and more RAM on board.

Well, this obviously did not happen, and while some of us are now wondering whether this model will arrive at some point or not, @upleaks has revealed some information about a previously unknown phone, dubbed HTC One E9.

HTC might not be done with phone launches this month

The phone shows up with model number A55, and apparently, it will arrive with a 5.5-inch display which towers over the 5-inch One M9.

The handset will offer 2K resolution and will draw power from a MediaTek MT6795 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz and fitted with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Even if the phone relies on an advanced processor to sustain the workflow onboard, the leak says the battery inside will only be of the 2,000 mAh variety (the One M9 with a 1080p display and Snapdragon 810 relies on a 2,900 mAh one).

When it comes to the photography department, we should find a 20MP camera on the back. As for the frontal unit, HTC will offer two variations: one in the form of a 13MP frontal selfie snapper and an alternative of the 4MP UltraPixel variety.

Naturally, the smartphone will arrive with HTC’s own Sense 7 UI out of the box, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The company has implemented new features and enhancements with its latest software iteration. For example, Image Match will help users locate photographs of a particular person.

Sense 7 UI also bundles themes to allow users to personalize their phone by letting them choose wallpapers and customize app layouts.

Last but not least, the leak tells us that the HTC One E9 will be offered in White Rose Gold, Metalic Gray and Brown Gold options.

Could this be the lost HTC One M9 Plus?

So could this be the HTC One M9 Plus? Or a variation of it meant to be sold on select markets? It might as well be.

A few weeks ago, the HTC One M9 Plus popped up in benchmarks revealing a 5.1-inch display (the current leak says 5.5 inches) with 2560 x 1440 resolution (check).

The handset was shown to rely on a MediaTek MT6795 processor (check) fitted with 3GB of RAM (check) and 32GB of internal storage (check).

The benchmark listing also revealed a 20MP/13MP camera combo (check) with 4K shooting capabilities (unconfirmed).

As you can see, most of the specs are similar. Upleaks says the One E9 will launch later in March.
