HTC officially introduced the Desire 616 mid-range smartphone in Singapore earlier this week, and word has it that the handset should be launched in India in the next few days as well.

HTC One E8 was launched in China last month, and the company claims it has sold 50,000 units in only 15 minutes, which isn’t something uncommon for this market but still quite a decent achievement.

Now, Android fans in India are anxiously waiting for HTC to introduce the One E8 high-end smartphone in their country too. Well, that’s just about to happen, as NDTV Gadgets reports that HTC India has already started to send invitations to a launch event, which is set to take place on July 11 in New Delhi.

HTC is expected to announce not one, but two Android smartphones on Friday, but they will target different segments of the market. While the HTC One E8 will be aimed at customers who can’t afford to pay the upfront price of the HTC One M8, but still want to benefit from its features, the HTC Desire 616 targets the mid-range market.

The One E8 is also known as the plastic version of the One M8, HTC’s flagship smartphone, so while we can expect the smartphone to be priced lower due to the cheaper material used at manufacture, the handset will not be cheap at all.

HTC One E8 will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, but it’s expected to receive an Android L upgrade 3 months after the new platform gets released.

Specs-wise, the high-end device is equipped with a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone also sports a 5-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and 441ppi (pixels per inch). There’s also an enhanced 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Moreover, the One E8 offers dual-SIM (nano-SIM) support with dual standby and packs a non-removable 2600 mAh battery, along with an impressive 5-megapixel front-facing camera and 16GB of storage.

Next in line, HTC Desire 616 is a mid-range smartphone that runs an older version of Android, namely Jelly Bean 4.2.2. It’s also equipped with a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, a Mali-450MP4 and 1GB of RAM.

The Desire 616 sports a 5-inch HD (720p) display, 4GB of internal memory and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

There’s no word on pricing options for neither of the smartphones, but they will surely be announced on Friday, so stay tuned for more details on the matter.
