The smartphone has launched as a plastic version of the HTC One M8

Several weeks ago, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation made official a new flavor of its latest flagship handset, in the form of HTC One E8, which has already become available for purchase in China.

The new device was designed similarly with the HTC One M8, but it no longer features the same metallic body as the flagship phone, replacing it with a plastic one.

Thus, HTC has managed to reduce its price tag significantly, even if it has kept the high-end hardware specs that HTC One M8 was made official with.

As mentioned above, the new device has been made available for purchase in China, where customer interest in it appears to be very high, with over 2 million reservations already registered for it.

However, while this number is not conclusive in this country (those who pre-order don’t have to actually buy the device there), initial sales of the handset are indeed impressive.

According to the latest data coming from HTC (via weibo), no less than 50,000 HTC One E8 units were sold in China during the first 15 minutes of availability alone.

However, as GforGames notes, with a price tag of only 2,999 Yuan (roughly $481/€355), the handset is indeed set to sell like hot cakes in this country, the same as it might actually do on other markets out there as well.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the mobile phone was made official with a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution, at a 441 ppi pixel density.

Moreover, the handset is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, which is complemented by Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM.

The HTC One E8 also sports 16GB of internal memory, along with a microSD slot with support for memory cards of up to 128GB in size.

On the back, the new handset sports a 13-megapixel camera, which marks yet another big difference between it and the One M8, which came to shelves with a dual-camera setup on the back. The 5MP front camera on the handset hasn’t been changed.

HTC has had a long series of rough quarters lately, but it appears that the company is finally ready to make a comeback, and that the HTC One E8 will be able to help a lot with that.

However, it remains to be seen how the device will perform on other markets out there as well, since it is only now arriving on shelves. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
