Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has been long rumored to plan the release of a successor to its HTC One smartphone in early 2014, but no official announcement has been made as of now.

According to previous reports on the matter, HTC might be set to reveal the device in January or February 2014, one year after HTC One landed on shelves, but we’re still not sure what the phone will look like.

If we’re to believe designer Christof Gruber, HTC will pack the handset with rectangular, sharp edges, moving away from the current trend of designing smartphones with rounded corners, as the photos available courtesy of concept-phones show.

The smartphone, supposedly called HTC One 2, but spotted online a few times before under the codename of HTC M8, should pack top-of-the-line hardware inside, and the concept phone that can be seen attached to this article confirms that.

The HTC M8 concept comes with a 4.95-inch display that can deliver a 2k resolution, while also featuring a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor inside, along with 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

The specifications list of the concept phone also features 32GB of internal memory, along with 3200 mAh battery, which should provide long usage times.

On the back, it sports a 6-megapixel UltraPixel camera, which should deliver the entire range of benefits that the camera inside HTC One features at the moment. Furthermore, there is also a 2.9MP camera on the front, great for video calling.

The HTC One 2 concept device packs GPS, Glonass, Wi-Fi, and BoomSound too, along with HTC Zoe 2. Furthermore, it sports the HTC Sense 6.0 user interface on top of the Android 4.4.1 KitKat operating system.

The specifications list of the concept handset also includes infrared port, along with a fingerprint scanner on the back, as well as dual LED flash next to the back camera.

All in all, the specs list of the new device seem fairly reasonable for a 2014 flagship device, though the design might not appeal as much to HTC enthusiasts out there. Let us know what you think of it in the comments section.
