Windows Mobile 7 might be closer that expected, some of the latest reports around the Internet suggest. It has been rumored that Microsoft pushed the OS flavor back to 2011, yet it seems that more and more 'tipsters' say that MWC next month is the place where the platform will make the first appearance. Some of the Microsoft's executives also suggested a few weeks ago that it might be true, and we'll have to wait for the event to kick off to see whether WM7 is indeed ready for prime time. And the next question is, of course, what it will deliver if it is ready.

We already saw that it might not sport compatibility with the applications available for current versions of Windows Mobile, and that it might arrive in two different flavors, one aimed at business customers and one for end users, the latter sporting a great deal of entertainment and connectivity options. But this is not all, one should agree. Last year, we learned about a series of WM7 chassis requirements, suggesting that the handsets powered by this OS will be more powerful, and it seems that this too might soon prove true or false.

Along with the unveiling of the Windows Mobile 7 flavor at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, Microsoft is also expected to announce the first devices that will hit the shelves running under it. One of them, which seems to have the greatest chances of making an appearance on the floor at the event, is the HTC Obsession, while the other is the LG Apollo, said to include some rather fantasist specs, and which might be a no show at the conference, though it is rumored to land in Q3 this year.

According to WMExperts, HTC Obsession should include a 1GHz processor, 512MB of ROM/RAM, 4GB of internal storage, MicroSD memory card slot (32GB), a 3.7-inch capacitive AMOLED display, 5.0-megapixel camera with auto focus and HD 720p video@ 25fps, GSM / HSDPA connectivity, and a 1230 mAh battery. Measuring 112 x 56 x 11.7 mm, the phone might become available for purchase in October, but will arrive at MWC for showcasing.

As for LG Apollo, it should boast a 1.3GHz Qualcomm QSD8650 processor, CDMA + GSM and EvDO + HSDPA connectivity, 1GB of ROM/RAM, MicroSD slot with support for up to 32GB of storage, a 3.8-inch capacitive AMOLED display, 10-megapixel camera with flash, auto focus and HD 720p video@ 30fps, and a 1400 mAh battery. This handset should measure 115 x 57.5 x 11.2 mm, and might arrive in August/September at Sprint or Verizon, it seems.
