This might be a sign that the tablet is ready to launch soon

After the HTC Nexus 8 tablet failed to make an appearance during the Google I/O, the rumor mill suddenly ceased to buzz about the product.

We were briefly told that the device would arrive at some point, but no specifics had been given, so we were left to wait and wonder.

Now, two months after everyone’s hopes got crushed by the no-show, the tablet is making a comeback. Well, sort of, as we’re not 100% certain. The folks over at Gforgames claim they have spotted the HTC Volantis tablet receiving certification in South Korea and they have a screenshot to prove this is the case.

The filing for the HTC Volantis tablet was spotted in what’s being called South Korea’s FCC database – namely the RRA (Radio Research Agency).

As you might see for yourself looking at the screenshot, there’s no obvious reference to a “tablet” or “Flounder.” The filing has been added by HTC, but what gives away the fact that Volantis might be the product involved is the model number.

As some of you might recall, in June serial leakster @evleaks posted an image showing the blurry outlines of what seemed to be the back panel of a device which had “Flounder” and “OP8210000” on the back.

This is the same number you can spot in the screenshot taken from the RRA. So what does it mean? The tablet exists, so plans for bringing the product to the market haven’t been cancelled. To get even more hopeful, this might indicate that HTC is getting ready to launch the tablet soon.

Another report dating back from the month before claimed that HTC was not only working on the Nexus 8 but has two other tablet products in the pipeline. The devices have been dubbed the T7 and T12, so we can only guess that one comes with a 7-inch display, while the other has a 12-inch one.

For those who have made it late to the Nexus 8 party, let us walk you through the story so far. Just before the Google I/O, a massive leak revealed that, despite previous rumors claiming the tablet would arrive with either an Intel processor or Qualcomm Snapdragon one, the Nexus 8 would take advantage of NVIDIA’s new Tegra K1 chip.

Judging by what went on at Google I/O where NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 chip was a major presence, this makes a lot of sense. Apart from that, the tablet will come with 2K resolution and take advantage of two cameras (an 8MP one in the front and a 5MP one on the back).
