Becomes the first Windows Phone Mango handset on the continent

The first Windows Phone Mango-powered handset is now available for purchase for users in Europe, and is not the Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T, which already went available in Japan, or one of the HTC smartphones that went official on September 1st, namely the HTC TITAN or the Radar.

Instead, it is the plain old HTC Mozart, a device that was put up for sale for the first time last year, with the brand new Windows Phone 7 platform on board, and which has already been upgraded to Mango, it seems.

The new platform flavor was supposed to arrive on devices starting with the last week, but it is not here yet, though rumor has it that its release should be very close.

Moreover, the fact that HTC has already upgraded the HTC Mozart to the new Windows Phone Mango platform, and that it put the phone on shelves with the new platform release on board suggests that the launch date should indeed be very close.

One thing that should be noted here is that the HTC Mozart is available with Mango on board only in Russia for the time being, through other European countries might receive it in the near future as well.

However, while the first mobile phone to run under Mango is already available for purchase, it will take a while longer before the first Mango-based handsets arrive on shelves as well.

HTC's newly unveiled devices will not be arriving in users' hands before October 1st, when they are expected to hit the market in the UK.

Other countries on the old continent will be receiving the new phones starting with early October as well, and they are expected to arrive in other markets around the world as well in the coming months.

In the US, wireless carrier AT&T already went official with plans to add a number of three Windows Phone Mango smartphones to its offering in the near future, and other operators should follow suit soon. (via)
