The long rumored HTC Merge is expected to finally make an official appearance on shelves at Verizon Wireless as soon as today, some of the latest rumors around the web suggest.

Following a long series of reports on this device's availability, none of which panned out so far, new rumors suggest that Big Red would be gearing up to unveil the device as soon as today.

The mobile phone was leaked last year, and already received the necessary FCC approvals to arrive on shelves, not to mention that it was also formally announced to be on its way to the United States.

What we didn't see so far was the device itself in users' hands, though it seems that today might be the day when that would finally happen.

Leaked info that emerged over at Droid-life pinned the phone's availability to today, with the already announced/rumored specs included into the mix, it seems.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the HTC Merge was said to arrive on shelves with a side-sliding design, packing a large 3.8-inch touch-screen display, complemented by a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard.

The mobile phone is also expected to arrive on shelves with an 800MHz application processor inside, CDMA connectivity, and global 3G capabilities.

It would also sport WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a built-in GPS receiver for supporting various location-based services and applications.

Running under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, the new device is also expected to offer support for a wide range of Google Mobile services, and for applications available for download via the Android Market.

The mobile phone was already announced to be on its way to Alltel Wireless, but it seems that Verizon hasn't forgot about it either. No specific details on the price tag the new device would feature emerged for the time being, but it should be under $200 at Big Red, that's for sure.
