It seems that, at the Mobile World Congress held this week in Barcelona, Telstra executives attending the mobile show managed to ink a deal with HTC for the launch of the newly announced HTC Magic G2 handset, the second Android phone made by the Taiwan-based manufacturer exclusively with the communications company in Australia.

Of course, the HTC Magic G2 mobile phone will be exclusively delivered by the Australian carrier only for a limited period of time. As many of you might already know, the device will also come to Europe exclusively on Vodafone, who managed to secure the deal with HTC a few days ago.

At the same time, we should also note that Telstra Next G network is expected to be able provide 21Mbs as of March 23, 2009, which would make the handset the fastest mobile phone in the world. In addition, rumor has it that the new device might be launched in March as well, to coincide with the release of the company's network.

Vodafone's chief executive, Vittorio Colao, also confirmed that the mobile phone carrier had plans to deploy a new G3 network in Australia, so as to be able to provide faster speeds than the super fast Telstra NextG network. He also stated that the company had the rights to sell the Taiwanese maker's newly unveiled G2 smartphone.

Other mobile phone manufacturers are also on their way to launch Android-based handsets, and the list includes big names like Samsung and Motorola. For what it's worth, some operators seem determined to start offering phones powered by Google's operating system, only that they plan to carefully choose the models they would add to their offerings. At the same time, they also seem determined to gain exclusive rights for the devices for a limited period.
