Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation might not make its next flagship Android-based device official this month as initially expected, unveiling it in March instead, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The info comes from notorious tipster @evleaks, who claims that the handset, currently known under the codename of HTC M8, will become official in late March at a press event set for New York City.

HTC M8 is expected to arrive on shelves as the successor of HTC One, which was launched in February last year, and it comes as a surprise that HTC decided to delay the unveiling by one month.

We should also mention that Samsung is expected to announce a new flagship smartphone in March as well, namely the Galaxy S5.

Considering the great popularity of the Samsung Galaxy S series, chances are that HTC is planning some mind-blowing features for the upcoming device, provided that it will indeed launch it around the same time as its rival’s high-end phone.

One of the features that HTC M8 should arrive on shelves with includes on-screen buttons, which will replace the capacitive buttons that are present on the latest devices in the HTC One line.

Info on the matter emerged a while ago, and a leaked image is now available for your viewing pleasure (via weibo), supposedly confirming the change.

HTC M8 is also expected to arrive on the market with a very thin bezel around the display, HTC Source notes. This would make it only a bit larger when compared to the HTC One, despite the fact that it is said to sport a 5-inch touchscreen display.

The one thing that remains to be seen is what name the new smartphone will feature. Previous reports suggested both HTC One 2 and HTC One+ names for it, but an official confirmation on this hasn’t been provided as of now.
