One of the devices that Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has been rumored to bring to the market in the not-too-distant future is codenamed M8 Ace, and some more info on its possible specs has emerged online today.

According to a recent article on Engadget, the upcoming device might turn out to be a plastic version of the HTC One M8, though with a series of modifications inside.

The most important of them will be, of course, the fact that the aluminum unibody that One M8 was launched with will be replaced with a plastic one.

The phone was teased online before with the same looks as the already available flagship handset, yet little was known at that time on HTC’s plans for it.

Apparently, the Taiwanese company is aiming at launching this device as the ultimate competitor for Samsung’s Galaxy S5, and the hardware specifications that will be included in M8 Ace will help in this regard.

The mobile phone is said to feature a 5-inch touchscreen display, the same as the HTC One M8 before it, capable of delivering a full HD resolution.

However, the new device should replace the 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor inside HTC’s flagship with a 2.5GHz one, which will allow it to provide better performance capabilities to all users.

Given that the upcoming phone will feature about the same specs as the One M8, we can also assume that HTC will launch it with 2GB of RAM packed inside, as well as with 16GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

The handset should also run under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, with the HTC Sense 6.0 user interface loaded on top, the same as the One M8.

What remains to be seen, however, is whether HTC will choose to pack it with the twin-camera sensor that One M8 arrived on shelves with in late March. The 5MP front camera present on the flagship might remain on M8 Ace as well.

When compared to Galaxy S5, which features the same processor, the HTC M8 Ace will have a great advantage price-wise. Thus, it might indeed be capable of proving a threat to Samsung’s high-end smartphone, provided, of course, that the rumor on its specs pans out.

Rumor has it that HTC might launch the upcoming device at 3,000 Yuan (around $480/€350), SIM-free. This will make it more than appealing to enthusiasts, that’s for sure.
