Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation released today a new software solution for one of its handsets available on the European market, the HTC Legend. The update is meant to fix one of the issues that Legend came to the market with, and which made its camera incompatible with some of the applications available for download from the Android Market.

“In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your phone to enable apps that use the camera. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G,” HTC notes on its support web page. “We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply,” the company continues.

Legend owners who will try out the new software update for their handsets can easily check whether the installation was successful, the mobile phone maker adds. New software number on the phone should be 1.31.405.4 after the update, something that can be found by going from the Home Screen to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number.

Those who already purchased the HTC Legend might have noticed that they cannot access some of the software solutions available for download on the Android Market. This fix is expected to solve the issue, as it seems that the problem was with the phone's camera, which was incompatible with these apps (Google Goggles, Barcode Scanner, Twidroid and others). Handsets like Droid Incredible or the AT&T version of the Nexus One reportedly come with the same problem, but HTC might deliver fixes for them too in the near future. Keep an eye on this space for more on the matter.
