HTC has finally confirmed that its Legend smartphone will get the Android 2.2 (Froyo) treat in the coming weeks. The manufacturer made an “official” announcement on its Facebook account, last week and is apologizing for not responding earlier to users' questions about the update. Apparently HTC wanted to be sure that it will be able to deploy the software update before responding to users’ ongoing pleas.

Furthermore, users that own an unbranded HTC Legend will be receiving the update first, while those with carrier-branded versions of Legend will have to wait slightly longer.

The reason behind the delay between the two updates is that the software must go through the appropriate approval process at each carrier that supports Legend on their network.

Once the update has been approved by a specific carrier, customers should then receive their software update.

The waiting time may vary according to each carrier's software update policy and of course, depends how quickly the update will be ready.

HTC stated that it will start working with individual carriers for approval only after the update for unbranded Legends will be ready.

The “official” announcement doesn't include a certain launch date, but at least confirms that the update is a work in progress: “The update has been progressing quite well, and in the coming weeks those with unbranded Legends should be receiving the update.”

HTC Legend was made available on the market in spring 2010 and comes with Android 2.1 (Eclair) OS. It is powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7227 600 MHz processor and features a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

Other key features of the Android-based smartphone include: Sense UI, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA, 2 Mbps, 384 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPS with A-GPS support and 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash.
