Starting with tomorrow, March 25th, mobile phone users in Australia who own an HTC Legend smartphone on the airwaves of Vodafone would have the possibility to download and install on their devices the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system flavor.

The over-the-air software update arrives a little late, the carrier notes on its blog, but it would still offer a nice range of enhancements to all Legend owners on its airwaves, or on Three's network.

“We can now safely say that from 12PM the 25th of March all customers (3 and Vodafone) using a HTC Legend will start getting a notification to update the firmware version to Android 2.2 (Froyo),” the mobile phone carrier notes on the said blog post.

As soon as the update is available for a specific device, the carrier would send out a notification to the user, along with the possibility to accept downloading the upgrade over the air.

“We would recommend downloading the upgrade within a good- strong 3G coverage zone zone (full 3G HSPA coverage) and have a FULLY CHARGED BATTERY. (This should take between 7-10 mins as the file is approx 85MB in size),” the carrier continues.

Those users who are not in a good coverage zone should consider holding off downloading the update until they arrive in such an area. Moreover, users should also know that they can download the software via HTC's support website, here.

The download will be performed over the air in the background and, as soon as the process is completed, users would be prompted to install the new software on their devices.

Some of the main features of the new software update would include:

- Adds a new refined Google search tool to your home screen saving time and data usage - You can use your device as a WiFi Hot Spot - You can use your device as a flashlight - You can recommend apps from your phone to friends - Change language settings on your device on the fly - Easier SMS functions to improve your experience

Of course, these are not the only enhancements that the new software update would arrive on handsets with, and those interested in learning more on it should head here for the entire list.
