During the second quarter of the ongoing year, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation managed to dominate the 4G smartphone market in the United States, a recent report notes.

The handset vendor accounted for no less than 62 percent of 4G smartphone sales in the country in the time frame, market research firm NPD notes in a recent report, according to DigiTimes.

HTC led the 4G market in the country with top selling devices on three major wireless carriers, the report unveiled.

The HTC EVO 4G on Sprint was one of them, along with the HTC Inspire 4G available on AT&T's airwaves, and the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon Wireless' network.

The South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics managed to end the quarter on the second position on the 4G smartphone area.

The company accounted for 22 percent of the market, followed by Motorola with 11 percent, and LG Electronics with only 4 percent of the market.

4G technologies are constantly gaining more ground on the wireless market, as more and more carriers adopt them in an attempt to increase the speed of services their users benefit from.

In the US, all four major wireless carriers offer 4G at the moment, namely AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.

AT&T and T-Mobile both offer HSPA+ services, with deliver speeds on par or even higher than what other standards can deliver. AT&T is also working on deploying a LTE network, and Sprint also announced plans to move to this technology and to abandon WiMAX, which powers its 4G network at the moment. Verizon has already managed to bring 4G LTE to a wide range of markets in the US, and plans on launching the service in even more of them before the end of the ongoing year.

Newer, more powerful smartphones that can deliver 4G connectivity are expected to arrive on shelves soon, both from HTC and other vendors, including the aforementioned Samsung, Motorola and LG.
