Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC has just announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) through which Maxis will continue to be the first telecoms company in Malaysia to release existing and upcoming HTC devices. The partnership between the two companies was formalized through the signing of the said MOU by Jack Tong, Vice-President of HTC Corporation, and Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke, Chief Operating Officer of Maxis.

“Today marks a new chapter in our relationship with Maxis, one that will aim to bring greater innovation to Malaysia’s smartphone market,” Jack Tong, Vice President, Asia, HTC Corporation said.

“We believe that Maxis and HTC will continue to provide innovative services and devices that will enhance the mobile experience for users in Malaysia, and make it a joy to use your smartphone.”

In addition to the signing of this MOU, HTC announced the launch of two devices on the market in Malaysia, via Maxis, of course, namely the HTC Flyer tablet PC, and the HTC Desire S smartphone.

The Desire S arrives in shelves as the direct successor of HTC Desire, running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, and sporting a similar design as the original.

As for the HTC Flyer, it was launched as the first tablet PC from the company, with the new HTC Sense user experience on board, and with an intuitive and innovative approach to tablets. It runs under Gingerbread as well.

In addition to these two handsets, Maxis customers will have the opportunity to be the first ones to taste the HTC Wildfire S, HTC Cha Cha and HTC Salsa smartphones from the company. The HTC Desire S was already made available for purchase through all Maxis centers and Maxis Exclusive Partners. It can be paired with Maxis data plans (500MB, 1.5GB or 3GB packages), and can bring savings of up to RM500 on the device retail price of RM1,799.

The HTC Flyer is set to become available for purchase through all Maxis authorized outlets starting with May 12th, featuring a price tag of RM999 for the first 50 customers.
