The smartphone will hit shelves later this month in select markets

Today, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation officially announced the upcoming availability of HTC Desire 500 on the market in Europe.

Made official as a mid-range device, the new handset packs a 1.2GHz quad-core processor inside, along with a series of exclusive features coming from HTC themselves, such as BlinkFeed and Video Highlights.

The mobile phone is set to land on the market in Europe later this month, but specific details on its availability and pricing have yet to be unveiled.

According to HTC, the new device is meant to provide users with a great mobile experience in an affordable package. It will hit the market in Lacquer Black and Glacier Blue.

"The Desire range has become renowned for bringing a premium mobile experience to the mass market," commented Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation.

"This particular model, the Desire 500, is no different. It is perfect for people who are always-on-the-go, it enables powerful multitasking and live-streaming of important and interesting information, and it boasts an excellent camera and that bring your important moments to life."

HTC Desire 500 sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording capabilities, powered by a dedicated HTC ImageChip processor, and complemented by a 1.6MP front-facing camera.

With the aforementioned Video Highlights feature, users will enjoy a new way of sharing important moments by compiling stills and videos from one event into a 30-second reel.

“The HTC Desire 500 brings HTC's acclaimed BlinkFeed to the Desire range. Transforming the home screen into a customisable stream of live information, HTC BlinkFeed is displayed on a stunning 4.3-inch display and aggregates social streams and news, providing the freshest content at a glance,” HTC explains.

HTC BlinkFeed delivers access to over 10,000 articles per day, coming from some of the world's leading media companies, such as AOL, ESPN, MTV, The Financial Times and Reuters.

In addition to announcing that HTC Desire 500 would be released at mobile operators and via major retailers in select markets later this month, HTC also confirmed that it would launch a dual-SIM flavor of the device, with NFC connectivity packed inside.
