Word on the alleged sequel to HTC Butterfly popped up for the first time last month when a mention of the smartphone was spotted in AnTuTu. Some of the phone’s specs sheet were listed in the benchmark as well, though the device appeared only under the codename HTC 0PAJ3, which didn’t say too much.

Today, a Japanese website leaked all the info regarding the sequel to the HTC Butterfly. The Asian version of the Butterfly is dubbed HTC J, which is why the smartphone appears listed as HTC J Butterfly (2014).

For starters, the smartphone’s model is different than the one appearing on AnTuTu last month, which means that the latter might be the European version of HTC Butterfly 2.

Anyway, according to ePrice, the HTC J Butterfly (2014) will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, along with Sense 6.0 UI on top.

Unlike the European variant, which is likely to be equipped with a 2.3GHz quad-core CPU, the Japanese version appears to be powered by a slightly better 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 processor.

Both versions are equipped with Adreno 330 graphics processing units and 2GB of RAM. Unfortunately, there are no details on the amount of internal memory, but HTC J Butterfly (2014) is confirmed to pack microSD card slot for memory expansion.

There is no mention of the battery’s capacity, but it is certain that it will be non-removable. Furthermore, the smartphone only accepts nanoSIM cards, so keep that in mind before making your investment.

There won’t be dual-SIM capability, but HTC J Butterfly (2014) will offer support for LTE, CDMA and GSM networks. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC (Near Field Communication), mobile wallet (Felica) and infrared connectivity options will be included as well.

The phone’s SuperLCD3 display will be provided by LG and Sharp and will support full HD (1080p) resolution. No details on the size have been provided, but we suspect that it will be of at least 5 inches.

Surprisingly, HTC J Butterfly (2014) will come with Duo Camera, just like the Taiwanese company’s flagship smartphone, the One M8. The 5-megapixel main camera will feature F2.0/28mm lens and HTC ImageChip 2 with HDR Video (back-illuminated CMOS).

Last but not least, the smartphone is said to be waterproof and it will feature BoomSound audio technology (via stereo speakers). No word on when exactly it will be made official, but given the recent leaks, it should be unveiled in the next couple of weeks.
