Spotted on HTC India's website last week, the Incredible S has just been officially introduced in India and is available for purchase for Rs. 28,900 (about $645) unlocked.

Showcased during the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, along with HTC‘s Desire S, Wildfire S, ChaCha, Salsa and the Flyer tablet, the Incredible S is the rightful successor of the popular Droid Incredible smartphone, which was released in the U.S. in April 2010.

However, unlike its predecessor, the Incredible S features a larger 4.0-inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

“In today’s mobile market, where one is bombarded with choices and features, users are looking forward to an offering which amalgamates the best of both. HTC has always endeavored to take the mobile phone experience to a higher level and with the launch of the Incredible S is set to create a new paradigm in mobile experience for the users,” said Mr. Ajay Sharma, country head, HTC India.

It seems odd that the Taiwanese manufacturer tagged the Incredible S with such a high price, even though there are other more powerful smartphones that can be bought for a lower price. Currently, the phone is available in the U.S. for $560, which is almost $100 cheaper than the Indian market price.

The Incredible S is powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 GPU and runs Android 2.2 Froyo, which, according to the manufacturer, is upgradable to 2.3 Gingerbread.

The phone packs 1.1 GB ROM, 768 MB RAM, as well as a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

One of the strong points of the Android-based smartphone is the superior 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash and video recording capabilities (720p@30fps), which is complemented by a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video-calls.

The phone's 1450 mAh Li-ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 290 hours of standby time (370 hours for 3G) or up to 10 hours of talk time (6 hours for 3G).
