Things are getting hotter and hotter while the upcoming HTC Hima (One M9) is concerned. Not so long ago, we told you that the Taiwanese company was apparently looking to axe the One moniker and re-baptize its next flagship.

According to leaks, the next top-tier HTC smartphone, which was known so far in the rumor mill as the One M9, will launch sometime next year. The device is known under the code name Hima.

Say goodbye to the One M9 and hi! to Hima

Hima could turn out to be the smartphone’s internal code name, but once development is done, it could go on sale under a different name.

But one thing’s for sure, you won’t be picking up an HTC One M9 next year.

Anyway, specifications related to the smartphone have already leaked online, but so far we haven’t seen the handset in real-life photographs.

Well, the folks over at French website Nowhereelse have managed to dig up a few photographs showcasing the front panel of the upcoming Hima device.

As it's visible in the images, we can expect to have a pretty good screen-to-phone-size ratio, as HTC is rumored to be working on slimming those down even further, so we might end up having a device with an even more compact form factor.

Puzzlingly, the current source says that the Hima flagship will feature a 5.2-inch panel while earlier rumors claimed the smartphone woud have a 5.5-inch diagonal instead. To point this discrepancy out, they compare the One (M8) to the upcoming One (M9) but they are not showing us any measurements.

However, other leaks claim the flagship will take advantage of the same 5-inch panel we see in the One (M8), but as you can see in the comparison image, Hima seems to be larger than the M8. The truth is out there somewhere.

Anyway, the panel seems to have pretty thin bezels all around, which is certainly an added bonus to the already rumored specs of the device.

A roundup of HTC Hima specs

In case you missed the train and didn’t catch them, we’re taking the opportunity to remind you. The smartphone might arrive with either a 5-inch or 5.5-inch display that will support only full HD (1080p) resolution, although some voices claim we’re HTC will offer quad HD instead (1440 x 2560).

On the next topic, word on the street seems to agree, as the HTC Hima is said to drop the UltraPixel camera in favor of a more traditional one. Apparently, the handset will arrive with a 20.7MP camera resting on the back, which comes with autofocus, LED flash and video recording.

Hima is also expected to take advantage of a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor fitted with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The spec list goes on to mention a 2840 mAh battery plus VoLTE and LTE Cat.6 support.

HTC’s next iconic device is expected to ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, with HTC Sense 7.0 UI plastered on top.
