Will combine the advantages of both Android and the Chrome OS

The underwhelming sales of Acer's and Samsung's Chromebooks don't seem to scare HTC which is now reportedly working on its own such laptop running the Chrome OS operating system.

Unlike the other players in this business however, HTC is looking at a new concept billed as an “internet-access device,” that will “combine the advantages” of both Android and Chrome OS, according to DigiTimes sources.

While nothing is certain at this point in time, there's a strong chance that the resulting device will actually drop the current Intel Atom CPUs used in today's Chromebooks for ARM-based chips.

Chrome OS already has support for ARM built-in, so by going this route HTC could improve the battery life and multimedia capabilities of its Chromebook while also making it cheaper.

I have to admit that the idea of an ARM-powered Chromebook definitely sounds good, but I still have to wonder if HTC will actually make it where both Acer and Samsung have failed.
