Unveiled in 2009, HTC HD is one of the last smartphones to be launched with Windows Mobile 6.5 on board.

However, it appears that the device has a high number of dedicated fans who would not think or get rid of the phone and replace it with one of the new Windows Phone 7 devices that were recently launched on the market.

Instead, they preferred to bring the Windows Phone 7 platform on the HTC HD2, though Microsoft stated that no previous Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone will receive software upgrades.

Although the first unofficial WP7 ROM for the HD2, also known as HTC Leo, was released several months ago, none of the ROMs that were launched until recently allowed users the possibility to update their devices with the official builds released by Microsoft.

Fortunately, this possible now thanks to the guys over at XDA, who have just released a new ROM Build 7.0.7004.0, which allows HTC HD2 users to flash any future official update launched by Microsoft.

HTC HD2 with previous versions of Windows Phone 7 should follow the instructions below:

- Flash an old stock ROM and let it boot entirely: - Format the SD card; - After reflash, use magldr and the new ROM.

According to the guys over at XDA, it is important to follow the instructions above because the format of the partitions has changed and old ROMs can create problems with system updates.

The unofficial ROM requires the following: Hard SPL 2.08 or higher, Radio that supports 576 RAM and Magldr 1.12 or 1.13.

The main features of the ROM include:

- Ability to Install Mango 7720 Build; - Ability to Install Developers Update Cab; - Updatable via zune (for build after 7720 wait confirmation before apply); - Root, Chevron and unlock features already in and reapplied after an update.
