Those users who own a HTC HD2 smartphone, grew tired of the mobile operating system it runs under by default, and would be interested in installing another OS on it, should soon have the possibility to put HD2 to the test with a new flavor of Android, namely Honeycomb.

This is one of the latest operating system version that Google launched on the market. The Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform was released for tablet PCs, offering a nice range of improvements aimed at these devices' larger displays.

HTC HD2, a smartphone that landed on shelves in 2009, has already seen other versions of Android loaded on it, and now a Honeycomb ROM is available for those interested in giving it a try.

The news on this software comes from the guys over at XDA-Developers. We should note that this is not an official release, and that those who would give it a try would do so at their own risk.

imilka, the forum member who unveiled the ROM, says that the ROM includes some tricks from those who are working on Desire and Nexus Honeycomb ports.

For the time being, the HTC HD2 would be able to boot in the new Andorid operating system flavor available for it, and the touchscreen is said to be working.

At the same time, LED and screen-off are working, the hardware buttons have been properly mapped, and there is also graphics hardware acceleration. Data connectivity is expected to work too, as well as the browser and SD mounting.

On the other hand, the rest of the functions do not work, including phone features, WiFi, the camera, or the audio features.

However, the ROM is not final, and more of these would become available as the work on it advances, although it would still take some time before the port is indeed usable.

In the meantime, those who might want to learn more on it should take a look at the video below, or they could head to this thread on XDA-Developers forum.
