HTC's Windows Mobile-based HD2 handset was the hottest mobile phone the company delivered to the market last year, especially when it comes to the hardware specs it boasts. A large display was included in the equation, along with a speedy processor, enough storage space, and more. Unofficially, the handset has recently received a new feature, in the form of Google's Android 2.2 Froyo platform, which got ported over to the Windows Mobile device.
According to some, the Windows Mobile platform HD2 came to the market with did not unveil the handset's full potential. However, the recent Android ports for HD2 might be able to do so, according to enthusiasts. For what it's worth, they do provide a new look to an older device. Especially that Android 2.2 Froyo port, which enables the HD2 run under the latest flavor of Google's mobile operating system. You can have a look at it in the first video below.
This port arrives into the wild a few weeks after HD2 got a taste of the Android 2.1 operating system, something we already reported on. However, it seems that other similar solutions are now available, and the second video embedded at the bottom of this article should offer more details on it. It seems that the solution is working pretty well, even if a series of issues are still there, as a recent article on Android Community notes.
In case there are some who own an HTC HD2 and would like to try out an Android ROM on their device, they should know that they can do so without wiping the device clean. A series of dual boot solutions are available for download, enabling users to install Android on HD2 while keeping the Windows Mobile OS intact. One such solution, meant to offer users the possibility to choose Windows Mobile or Android during boot, has been recently updated, and details on it can be found in this post over at xda-developers.
UPDATE January 3rd, 2011:A new Android ROM is now available for the HTC HD2. You can learn more about it here.

Thank you in advance.
I just ported my T-Mobile HD2 to Android Foyo 2.2 and everything is functional. I had to get APN settings off the internet, but once it was done I was able to use the 3g/edge/wifi and all the joys of the android 2.2. I did have to re-download some apps like the TeleNav navigation but that worked beautifully once downloaded. I love it. I have all the downloads that I used to install the 2.2 and the directions to get you going. If you want them just email me.
