Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC has just announced the availability of a new software update for one of its Windows Mobile-based handsets, the HTC HD mini.

However, the new update is available only for the HTC HD mini units on the airwaves of wireless carrier Vodafone UK.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC HD mini users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” the company notes on its support website.

The new update comes as ROM version 1.41.161.1, the handset vendor announced, but did not offer specific info on what the solution includes.

According to the company, users interested in installing the software update should first make sure that is is newer than what is present on their handsets.

“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software,” the company notes.

“To check what version is installed on your device, click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version,” HTC added.

Users should also backup all data on their devices before launching the update process, so as to make sure that they won't lose any important files during the upgrade.

At the same time, we should note that the update will have to be made via a desktop computer that runs under Windows 7, Vista or Windows XP.

All applications on the handset would have to be closed, while the battery on the phone needs to be at least at 50 percent.

All the necessary details on the new software update are available on HTC's support website here. The actual software update is available for download from there too.
