Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation might soon bring to the market some new handsets that would run under Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 operating system, including one that would sport the name of HTC 7 Melody, it seems.

The handset vendor reportedly filed a series of applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office, which point at a possible upcoming device that sports this name.

Moreover, another moniker popped up, namely HTC Freestyle, but there are no details available on whether this handset would indeed be running under Windows Phone 7 as well.

According to the guys over at Pocketnow, who find these names through the US Patent and Trademark Office archives, the applications were filed on August 19th and October 21st, respectively.

However, for the time being, none of the phones was granted marks yet, and Freestyle was not assigned to an examiner either.

As for the 7 Melody, the device seems to have required a re-filing, aimed at providing more details on the inclusion of the number in its name.

The application explains that “7 appearing in the mark means or signifies the operating system of the phone in the relevant trade or industry or as applied to the goods/services listed in the application.”

In other words, the mobile phone should run under Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system, the same as other devices from HTC that come with the 7 number in their name are.

Other details on these devices are missing at the moment, including info on when they might land on shelves, at which wireless carrier, or the price tag they might feature.

However, the Pocketnow article suggests that Melody might be a version of Mozart, designed mainly for the United States market, though there is no proof of this state of facts.

It should also be noted that HTC filed a trademark for the Trophy name. The company already has such a handset on shelves in various markets around the world, and it might bring the phone to the US as well.
