A new software update comes straight from HTC's labs, this time aimed at the first Tablet PC the Taiwan-based mobile phone maker brought to the market with Google's Android operating system on board, namely HTC Flyer.

In a recent post on its support page, the handset vendor announced that HTC Flyer users should soon start receiving a software update on their devices, and that this update would bring a series of performance enhancements.

“Your Tablet will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G,” the leading handset vendor announced.

As soon as the installation process has been completed, users would be able to check on the successful installation through hitting verifying the Build number of the software on the device.

To do so, they should follow this path: from the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number.

The new update would have the software build number on their devices brought up to 2.00.405.3, HTC explains.

Before proceeding with the update process, users should consider backing up all data on their devices, so as to make sure that they won't lose important files during the installation.

“We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply,” HTC also notes.

As stated above, HTC announced that the new software update would bring a series of performance improvements into the mix, but did not off specific info on them.

HTC Flyer is the first tablet PC coming from the handset vendor. Sporting a 7-inch touchscreen display and a fast 1.5GHz application processor inside, the device runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

HTC promised an upgrade to Android 3.0 Honeycomb for the device, but this update is not it. Most probably, the new platform flavor would be pushed to Flyer in the coming weeks.
