HTC Flyer Tablet Heading to Malaysia

An announcement Malaysian carrier Maxis has recently made hints at the HTC Flyer’s imminent availability in the country.

After launching the Nexus S two weeks ago, Maxis is extending its Android devices portfolio with the highly anticipated HTC Flyer tablet.

Although no official announcement has been issued that could confirm the tablet's release date or price tag, the carrier is known for giving away devices for testing before their launch.

The HTC Flyer was the target of numerous rumors lately, which point out that the tablet might receive the Honeycomb upgrade only later this year. Apparently, the manufacturer has been denied an earlier software upgrade for its first tablet by Google.

The search-engine giant does not want tablets that are currently running Android 2.x to be upgraded to the latest Honeycomb OS, but it seems to have been merciful with HTC, which received the license for its Flyer tablet after all.

According to the latest hearsay, Google is working on its own branded Honeycomb tablet, which will be manufactured by LG.

This is supposed to be the first Android 3.0 tablet to receive updates and interface improvements and will probably be available sometime in mid-summer or early fall.

As odd as it may sound, the decision of postponing the Honeycomb upgrade for the Flyer until the end of the year may be in the customers' favor.

This will allow Google and HTC to deliver Flyer users the latest version of Android, including the improvements that the former plans to add to its own tablet.
