The Flyer, HTC first try on Android tablets, made its debut in India back in June for Rs 37,499 (US$720 or 535 EUR). Five months after its initial launch the tablet's price has been slashed to Rs 23,990 (US$460 or 340 EUR) to make it more appealing.

Android enthusiasts living in India can now purchase the HTC Flyer directly from major retailer Flipkart for the amount aformentioned, no strings attached.

It appears that the price cut was decided by HTC India who plans to discontinue the tablet in order to come up with something more powerful in Q1 2012.

Rumors about HTC's allegedly quad-core tablet dubbed Quattro have already started to surface. Although not as small as the HTC Flyer, the Quattro will probably make the former obsolete the moment it hits shelves.

Nevertheless, the HTC Flyer is still a good deal for those who want a taste of the Gingerbread operating system on a larger screen, though it's highly possibly that the device will get the latest Ice Cream Sandwich port sometime next year, or at least Honeycomb.

Unfortunately, we still think that the tablet is a bit steep for what it has to offer, especially that there are other cheaper alternatives that come with almost similar features.

All in all, the HTC Flyer features a 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with support for 16 million colors and 600 x 1024 pixels resolution.

It comes with two sets of touch-sensitive controls for landscape and portrait use, as well as accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and handwriting support.

The slate is equipped with a 1.5 GHz single core processor and packs 16GB onboard memory, 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion. There's also a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, and a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

The tablet is likely to get even cheaper than this by the end of the year, but there's no telling when it will happen exactly.
