HTC Flyer is expected to hit the shelves in UK this month, but several major retailers are already taking pre-orders for the tablet.
Carphone Warehouse is one of the lucky ones that got the Flyer and has priced the tablet at £599.99 without contract.
Although the HTC Flyer is listed as being 'In Stock', the retailer retained the 'Pre-order' status of the deal, so it is unclear for the moment if it has started to ship the device or not.
To make things even more mysterious, Carphone Warehouse mentions that devices with the 'Pre order' status are available to order online, and may be available in stock.
Whatever the outcome, the tablet proves to be more expensive than what was initially rumored.
Users who thought that Motorola XOOM is overpriced at £579.99 will probably have second thoughts when they see the Flyer's price.
Even though HTC has confirmed that its first tablet available on the market will receive the Honeycomb upgrade sometime this year, the fact remains that the Flyer will be delivered with Android 2.4 Gingerbread on board.
When put head-to-head HTC Flyer and Motorola XOOM, the latter is likely to win on all aspects because of the superior hardware and software embedded.
The only strong point of the Flyer might be the new HTC Scribe technology, which comes with the addition of a pen that is usually sold separately.
The HTC Flyer has a 7-inch touchscreen display that supports a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and 16 million colors.
It is powered by a 1.5GHz application processor and packs 32GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM as well as microSD memory card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
There's a slight chance that the tablet's price will be lowered a bit prior to shipping once an official price is confirmed.
