The handset sold out due to its low price tag, not popularity, it seems

Mobile phone carrier AT&T has reportedly confirmed depleted stock of the HTC First smartphone, the only device in the world to date to sport the Facebook Home launcher on it out of the box.

The handset, made official a few months ago, hasn’t enjoyed the popularity that AT&T, Facebook, and HTC might have wanted it to, that’s for sure.

Although the entire initial stock of the device was sold out, this was due mainly to the $1 price tag that was slapped to it shortly after launch, cnet notes.

However, it seems that AT&T did not have to return unsold inventory to HTC, though no specific info on the number of handsets actually sold to users has been provided as of now.

What remains to be seen is whether more similar handsets will arrive on shelves, just as speculated when HTC First was launched.
