One of the new mobile phones that HTC should bring to the market in the near future with Google's Android operating system on board is the HTC Explorer, spotted into the wild before as the HTC Pico.

The upcoming mobile phone has just made an appearance in a leaked press photo, yet nothing has been confirmed officially on its existence at the time of this article.

By the looks of it, the new mobile phone should arrive on shelves as an affordable handset, though it would still run under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, it seems.

Some of the leaked info on the new device suggests that it should include a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that can deliver an HVGA resolution, and that it would include a 600MHz application processor inside.

Moreover, the yet-unannounced mobile phone should include 384MB of RAM, along with a 512MB ROM, which clearly show that it will be only a modest Android smartphone.

The HTC Explorer is also rumored to arrive on shelves with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which should offer support for HD video recording, as all Gingerbread handsets do.

Moreover, the mobile phone is rumored to sport the Sense 3.5 user interface on top of Android, the same as another new phone from the company would do, namely the HTC Rhyme.

The HTC Explorer might hit the market in two color flavors, it seems, namely black and blue, and will most probably be released almost for free with the signing of contract agreements with wireless carriers.

While unofficial, the new device is expected to be formally introduced as soon as today, during a press event that HTC will hold in New York City, though it is rather expected to arrive on the market in Europe, and not stateside.

One way or the other, the HTC Explorer mobile phone should be put up for sale sometime this fall, so keep an eye on this space for additional info on it. (via)
