Clamshells can be smart too

If you've got an HTC Star Trek clamshell smartphone I'm sure you'll be glad to know HTC will release an upgraded edition that will wear the "Erato" moniker. I don't know yet why they called it like this and, as we already know from the times they have launched one of their handhelds, a renaming of this device is not excluded.

The Erato, to be known also as the S420 will have ROM memory twice the size of the one to be found on board of its older brother, the StrTrk, and, as all the sources I could find until now tell me, a Samsung SC32442 processor running around the clock at a frequency of 420 MHz.

It will, probably, also feature a 2.4 inch 65k colors TFT display with a 240x320 pixels resolution, a Windows Mobile 6 Standard OS, GSM 850/900/1800 and UMTS 850/1900/2100 radios (more than enough to be eligible for a USA release), GPRS, EDGE and HSPDA built-in technologies.

The spec sheet will also mention its GPS capabilities obtained with the help of the SiRF Star III chipset, a microSD memory expansion card slot, a 960 mAh Li-Ion battery that will probably not offer an outstanding battery life, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and, unfortunately, the same USB 1.1 featured by HTC StrTrk.

That's all the info available at the moment and those are not the final specs the device will have when it will be launched, because HTC hasn't made any official announcements regarding the Erato.

Until HTC comes clean and tells everyone what they want to hear, enjoy Star Trek's sweetness and start saving money for its upgraded sibling.
