HTC Endeavour, the yet unannounced HTC handset that made it to the headlines as HTC Edge last year, is expected to become the first quad-core smartphone from the Taiwanese mobile phone maker.

There have been a variety of rumors on its availability and hardware specs, and many have just been confirmed courtesy of a leaked RUU (ROM Update Utility) for the device.

The file emerged over at the XDA Developers forums, and some people have already dissected it and have brought the goodies it includes to the spotlight.

Thus, we learn that the previous reports regarding the application processor packed inside this device were true.

The RUU makes reference to the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core chipset, which confirms that this might be the first HTC smartphone to leave Qualcomm’s CPUs aside.

At the same time, the leaked file confirms that the new smartphone will arrive on shelves with a 720p resolution touchscreen display. No info on the size of the panel has emerged do far.

On the back, it will pack an 8-megapixel photo snapper, most probably with support for HD video recording. There will also be a 1.3 camera on the front, aimed specifically at enabling video calling.

HTC Endeavour was also confirmed with WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity capabilities inside. Most probably, it will include 3G too, as well as 4G capabilities in some markets.

The leaked file also confirms that HTC will load the new mobile phone with the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, and that users will also get a taste of the Sense 4.0 platform on this device.

The HTC Endeavour is expected to make an official appearance before the end of this month, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Nvidia has already confirmed the launch of quad-core smartphones at the event, and HTC appears set to make Endeavour official as the first such smartphone in the world. Keep an eye on this space for more on the matter.
