The first tablet PC to pack support for WiMAX connectivity and to be sold in the United States on the airwaves of Sprint is even closer to an official unveiling, if some of the latest rumors on the matter are to be believed.

Apparently, handset vendor HTC filed a trademark for the “HTC EVO View 4G” name, which not only confirms previous rumors on the availability of a new tablet on Sprint's network, but also unveiled the fact that it would sport WiMAX connectivity options.

In all fairness, this should not come too much as a surprise, considering the fact that Sprint announced ever since last year that it would add such a tablet to its offering.

However, no specific info on this device emerged for the time being, even if it is expected to make an official appearance as soon as March 22, during an event that Sprint already announced for CTIA.

Rumor has it that, during the said show, the wireless carrier would launch more that just this device, and that two other Android smartphones are planned for that day as well.

As stated above, no details on the HTC EVO View 4G device emerged until now, thought there are some suggesting that it might be a WiMAX-enabled flavor of HTC Flyer.

If so, Sprint's customers would be able to enjoy a highly appealing device on their carrier's airwaves.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Flyer was unveiled with a 1.6GHz application processor inside, a 7-inch touchscreen display, dual cameras, microSD card slot for expanding the available internal memory.

The device would run under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with Sense for tablets on top, but is slated for an update to the Honeycomb OS flavor after the initial launch.

The WiMAX-capable tablet, provided that the HTC EVO View 4G trademark indeed refers to it, should include about the same specs as this device.

Whether Sprint would indeed launch or not a HTC tablet PC with Android and WiMAX capabilities would be learned in a couple of weeks from now, so keep an eye on this space for more.
