HTC EVO 4G, the first Android-based mobile phone at Sprint to land on shelves with support for the company's WiMAX services, is now receiving a new software update, the company announced officially via its support forums.

According to Sprint, EVO 4G is being brought up to firmware 3.70.651.1, with a nice range of enhancements included into the mix.

The new solution follows the release of firmware 3.30.651.3 back in early November, and comes with a series of updates mainly aimed at the applications pre-loaded on EVO 4G.

According to its release notes, the new software update includes:

- Blockbuster (including WM DRM 10) - Kindle eReader - Preloaded try/buy video game: NOVA from Gameloft - Sprint Zone update - Latest Telenav - Latest Visual Voicemail Application - Latest Sprint TV application - SWYPE keyboard - Scan Now Widget for 4G

The addition of SWYPE keyboard into the mix should prove a great thing for the wireless carrier's customers, that's for sure, especially since other Android-based devices have already had the solution installed on them for quite some time now.

Those users interested in downloaded the application should head to the Settings panel on their devices and check whether the solution is available for their devices as well.

As one can easily imagine, Sprint won't be able to deliver it to all customers at once, and it might take a while before some of them receive it, that's for sure.

Although this is only a maintenance update, users should also consider performing a backup of all data on their devices before launching the installation process, so as to make sure that no important files are lost during the update.

HTC EVO 4G is currently running under the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, but it might also receive an update to the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, although nothing was announced officially on the matter for the time being.
