Both are still under development, lots of features are not working

It appears that more and more Gingerbread or Froyo smartphone are not getting their unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, regardless of their hardware configuration.

Although all these projects are still under development, they promise users a taste of the latest Android 4.0 platform that has just made its debut on the market on board of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Motorola DEFY has just gotten its first bootable ICS test ROM, but there are still lots of things to fix. The folks over at XDA that made this happen confirm that users will be able to use the phone’s startup, bootmenu and recovery.

In addition, the touchscreen and keypad are fully functional, along with USB and Wi-Fi connectivity options.

However, there’s also a long list of things that need to be fixed, including colors, sound, phone / 3G, orientation sensor, hardware acceleration for the TI OMAP 3620 processor, as well as the camera.

Those who want to lend a helping hand to the project can join XDA forum's thread and report on any other things that need to be fixed and have not been listed yet.

Furthermore, Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G has its own bootable Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, which is based on the Android 4.0 source code branch 4.0.1_r1.

Developed by XDA Developers user the_plattypus, the Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for HTC EVO 4G is already Alpha 3 and receives constant improvements from the developer.

HTC EVO 4G who want to try it out should know that there are only a few things that are fully functional, such as the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, audio, network operator service and touchscreen, but without the pointer mode.

It is recommended to wait until a more stable version is released before making any changes to your smartphone’s software. Also, there’s the risk of bricking your phone, so don’t flash any of these unless you know what you’re doing.
